Yesteryear Collection

The City of London Police Ambulance system was established in 1907 by the Police Committee of the Corporation.
It was inaugurated on the 13th May 1907, one ambulance being stationed near St Bartholomews Hospital and a second at Bishopsgate Police Station. The aim was to attend any call within four minutes and convey the casualty to hospital within 9½ minutes, having rendered first aid. The ambulances were crewed by Police Officers and civilians, who were highly commended by the President of the Royal College of Surgeons for their skill and first aid.
The service continued under the command of the Commissioner until 1948 when, with the advent of the National Health Service, the vehicles were handed over to the London County Council.
This model is dedicated to the officers and civilians who manned those ambulances with such distinction.
